MY RETIREMENT

In October of 2024, I retired from the practice of medicine. Thank you to everyone who entrusted his or her health care to me.

CONTINUITY OF CARE: The law firm or physician office that referred you to me will contact you with suggestions of other lung specialists to provide ongoing medical care. Of course, the ultimate decision for an individual's health care provider is made by the patient.

MEDICAL RECORDS: The law firm or physician office that referred you to me should be able to send pertinent medical records to the lung specialist who will be providing your ongoing care. If necessary, I can also send medical records if you contact me at stephendproctormd@gmail.com. Please understand that it will take some time for me to retrieve medical records from the secure location, scan them and email them.

There is no state statutory requirement for the retention of physician office medical records. However, the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners cited recommendations of the North Carolina Medical Society and Curi, a major provider of medical malpractice insurance in North Carolina. I plan to follow these guidelines with include records retention for eleven years after the last contact with adult patients or five years after the passing of deceased patients.

Patients needing actual X-ray images or films (such as CT scans and chest X-rays) should contact Novant Health.

I cannot give medical advice by email. In the field of Pulmonary Disease, an intelligent opinion is best formed with the benefit of a history, physical examination and a chest X-ray.

We perform pulmonary function testing with a Sensormedics Vmax Encore 22. Its small size allows us to do pulmonary function testing and medical evaluations for asbestos-related disease and occupational medicine throughout the Carolinas.
