Local Restaurants

Many of my patients are not from Salisbury, so where to eat is a frequent question. Salisbury has a variety of chain restaurants, particularly along Innes Street and Jake Alexander Boulevard. These are some of my favorites, although exclusion of a restaurant does not imply that it would be a poor choice. These are listed in alphabetical order:

DJ's is technically a Greek restaurant, although a variety of choices are available. It is located at the corner of Innes Street and Merritt Street.

One of my former employees went to work for this restaurant. She liked it so much, she bought it! It is country style and excellent. Probably the best breakfast deal in Salisbury. The Farmhouse is located at the corner of Jake Alexander Boulevard and Old Concord Road.

If you're in the mood for a greasy hot dog or hamburger, nothing beats Hap's Grill. People stand at the counter to eat or sit outside. It is only opened until 3:00 PM. By the lack of cardiologists frequenting this restaurant, those with high cholesterol may want to eat elsewhere. It is located on North Main Street between Innes Street and Council Street.

Monterrey is an excellent Mexican restaurant. Great food, great drinks and great service for a very reasonable price. It is in a shopping center near the intersection of Statesville Boulevard and Jake Alexander Boulevard.

Of course, O'Charley's is a chain restaurant. But the Salisbury location has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants because of its consistently good food, great service and friendly staff. Tell Belinda I sent you! O'Charley's is located off Innes Street near its intersection with Interstate 85.

Osaka's is a Japanese restaurant, although not the type in which the food is prepared at your table. The staff is friendly, the food arrives quickly and it is always good. Turn right from my office and Osaka's is only a few blocks away.

There are probably 19 restaurants in Salisbury that have a person's name followed by the word "Barbecue." Richard's Barbecue is my favorite. It is located on North Main Street directly across from the law firm of Wallace and Graham.

Romano's is an Italian restaurant on Innes Street. The food is good and the service usually is. The restaurant is often too cool for my tastes. If you go, arrive before noon. It gets busy and there is very little room to wait for a table.

The Sidewalk Deli is on Main Street south of the intersection with Innes Street. The lines are sometimes long, but it is a popular place with good food. In warm weather, it is nice to sit outside.

Ting Hao is a Chinese restaurant located in a shopping center at the intersection of Highway 150 and Jake Alexander Boulevard. You get a lot of food for the money. But be prepared - because they don't take American Express. Or Visa. Or checks. Just cash!
